Golf & Beyond There is nothing more refreshing than the change of seasons from summer to fall. The heat and humidity of summer relenting to crisp, cool fall mornings are a welcome relief throughout the Middle Atlantic. For golfers, it is a great time of year to tee it up. But, if you are seeking more than a great round golf not far from Washington, D.C., there is no reason to look any further than Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, Virginia.
Golf at Lansdowne
Lansdowne is home to 45 holes of championship golf designed by Robert Trent Jones II and Greg Norman. The 7,332-yard Norman Course at Lansdowne Resort was built in 2006 to complement the original RTJ II Course that opened in 1991. It is also the only Norman course in the Middle Atlantic. The final four holes of the front nine measure 1,760 yards – equal to exactly one mile – prompting Norman to call it “the hardest mile in golf.” Some say it is the hardest course in the Middle Atlantic. It is definitely a must play for any golfer who wants to take on one of Norman’s best designs. Meanwhile, the RTJ II course is no pushover and offers a scenic 7,063 yards of rolling Virginia countryside with perfectly manicured greens. Whether it is a golf buddy trip, or a corporate outing, Lansdowne offers the perfect balance of challenge and fun.
The extra nine holes at Lansdowne are the uniquely Norman-designed “Sharkbite” course. This is an executive course on steroids as it can play anywhere from 800 to 2,300 yards. Sharkbite stages multiple teeing areas and is a great golf experience for families with children taking up the game, or for the business traveler looking to sneak in a quick nine in between meetings or before dinner.
For resort guests, Lansdowne features a “Hassle Free” golf special with the chance to play during twilight hours for $99, and includes Callaway rental clubs and a golf glove. For families, the resort’s Sharkbite Package includes overnight accommodations, two sets of rental clubs, unlimited golf on the Sharkbite Course and breakfast for up to two adults and two children.
Relax in the lansdowne spa
How often do you get to play 18 holes then relax in a world-class spa? Spa Minérale is the 12,000-square-foot oasis of comfort and pampering at Lansdowne Resort and one of the most luxurious spas in the Middle Atlantic. The facility features 13 treatment rooms, and yes, there are services for gentlemen, too, including a golfer’s massage which targets top stress points including the lower back, neck, shoulders and more. This is a great post-round stress reliever. The Pamper and Putt Package is a great getaway which includes unlimited golf at the resort for two and a 50-minute Swedish massage afterward for you and your playing partner. Lansdowne Resort has a wide range of fall packages available, so finding the best golf getaway in Northern Virginia is as easy as a tap-in putt. Plus, if you visit the spa any Sunday through Thursday, you’ll enjoy 20 percent off all treatments and services.
Learning, or Improving, the Game
The resort is also home to the new Lansdowne Golf Academy. Patrick McGuire and his team of certified golf instructors have the experience and the latest golf technology to take your game to a new level. If you are going to play golf, why not play well? When you book your golf package at Lansdowne, be sure to inquire about lessons at the Lansdowne Golf Academy.
Casual to Classic Cuisine
Lansdowne Resort also boasts five dining outlets, with three located inside the resort including On the Potomac, Riverside Hearth and Stonewalls Tavern. The Golf Club at Lansdowne features Crooked Billet and Pub 46. The dining experiences at Lansdowne range from elegant to casual and offer a wide variety of menu selections and dining experiences. All of the restaurants at Lansdowne utilize only the freshest local ingredients from the Virginia countryside. We recommend dining on the clubhouse or resort terraces, which are the best locations for stunning views of the fall foliage framing the golf courses and the Potomac River Valley.
Lansdowne is about one mile off Route 7 in Loudoun County, Virginia, and situated along the bluffs of the Potomac River. The resort is just 40 minutes from Washington, D.C., and eight miles from Dulles International Airport.
